Data Privacy

Data Privacy Week at DataGrail

Ian Phippen - January 21, 2026

This year, we’re celebrating Data Privacy Day (January 28) with our community of inspiring privacy professionals world-wide. Join the community for a full week of peer-driven insights and career advocacy.

But first, an exciting update to our community:

Privacy Basecamp is now Privacy Roundtable

When we launched Privacy Basecamp, we wanted to create a space where privacy professionals could connect and learn how to lead a rapidly evolving function. We built it on Slack so people could ask real questions and share resources in real time.

Over time, the community became something more. Conversations became peer-driven. 1,500+ practitioners shared what they were actually seeing—what worked, what didn’t, and how teams adapted. The tone stayed practical, even as membership expanded beyond first-time-privacy-professionals to include seasoned professionals, Chief Privacy Officers, General Counsels, and so many others.

Privacy was a relatively nascent function when Privacy Basecamp began, still acclimating to what GDPR and CCPA could look like in practice. We needed a starting point. But as the privacy field has matured, so has our community’s expertise and ambition. In 2026, privacy professionals look to each other for more than the fundamentals. Our community craves candid and experience-driven insights from peers across legal, compliance, and security around the world. Enter, Privacy Roundtable.

A few words from our community on our new name:

“Privacy Basecamp was a perfect name in the beginning, because the word “Basecamp”
signals this is something to launch from. Now we are evolving into stronger ideas and
more mature conversations: Privacy Roundtable makes sense.” – Tony Black, MBA,
FACHDM, FAHM

“The name change to Privacy Roundtable signals to me that this is a place where
everyone has an equal seat, everyone has equal value, and there is room for everyone’s
Contributions.” – Jamie Massaro, CIPT

Our community’s next chapter

In 2026, our Privacy Roundtable will expand to fully empower ongoing, experience-driven conversation among privacy peers. Not lectures, but honest Slack discussions among professionals willing to share what’s working, what isn’t, and what they’re still figuring out.

Look forward to:

  • Opportunities to co-create privacy scholarship and thought leadership
  • Peer-led meetups (virtual and in-person) to help you grow your network
  • Curated frank cross-community discussions on your real-world challenges
  • The same steady flow of privacy news & job openings you’ve come to expect

Like our predecessor, Privacy Roundtable is designed to allow for frank and honest discussion. Only privacy and adjacent roles are accepted into our space, and all messages are automatically deleted after 90 days to support your privacy. This means you can freely ask difficult questions without worrying who sees them on LinkedIn: you’re in a closed community of vetted, supportive peers.

The best way to level up your privacy practice is by learning from people doing the work right alongside you. We invite you to take your seat at the table.
