FTC orders Disney to pay $10M over kids’ data collected on YouTube

COPPAFTC Act Section 5 Federal Adtech & trackingChildren & minors

In late 2025, a federal court approved a $10 million order resolving FTC allegations that Disney enabled the unlawful collection of children's data. The FTC said Disney uploaded child-directed videos to YouTube without correctly labeling them as 'Made for Kids,' which allowed personal data to be collected from viewers under 13 and used for targeted advertising, without notifying parents or getting consent as COPPA requires. Beyond the penalty, Disney must review how it designates videos for kids and comply with COPPA's notice and parental-consent rules.

Why it matters Mislabeling children's content is a COPPA problem even when a platform does the collecting. If your videos reach kids, label them correctly and treat parental consent as mandatory.
